Born and raised in Riverside, Dr. Mercado is an athlete himself starting with the sport of soccer at the tender age of 5.  He grew up through the ranks of American Soccer playing  AYSO until he was 11.  That was the time he found that his love for soccer became more than just a hobby. Aspirations of playing Division 1 college soccer and maybe even professionally began to emerge.   He was recruited to play club soccer, while at that time only the very best players in the area played for their respective club teams.  At age 15 he found himself at a crossroads, stay in Riverside or go to NHB to further his career and fulfill his soccer dream. It was that year that his U16NHB Team won the DJ Niotis Cup National Cup Championship in Richmond, Virginia. He proceeded to realize his dream of earning a Division 1 College Scholarship to play at Sacramento State where he still holds a top 5 standing in overall games played and started in his 4 year career. He was drafted out of college to play professional soccer at the A-League Level where he played 1 year before beginning his work in the health and fitness arena in 1999.  Not only has he played soccer, but has served as a club coach, high school coach, and strength and conditioning coach since 2000.  He currently competes in triathlons to maintain his competitive edge and  resides in Monrovia with his wife and 3 daughters (5,3, and 3 months)
